Straight shaft or curved? Which is better or rather easier to use? I won’t bother you with the explanation of each, but know this, I prefer straight shaft trimmers for their conventional design. The Echo String trimmer SRM 225 is a 2 stroke 21.2cc straight shaft gas trimmer costing less than $250 with three important features that helps it get on my list of must have garden tools.
Arriving preassembled, it packs in a healthy length of cord so you won’t need replacement the first few time. When the time does come, no need to remove the housing that holds the reel as it’s all a simple matter of recoiling the reel using the rewind torsion head. Oh! the Vortex 2 stroke engine takes almost 30 percent less strength to start. No intricate starting mechanism and zero preparation time – this trimmer starts on the first pull, guaranteed.

In-Depth Review of the Echo SRM 225 String Trimmer
My first impression of the Echo SRM-225 17 inch gas trimmer was that of a conventional trimmer with shiny plastic parts. In all fairness, I have to disclose I am predisposed towards traditional lawn care equipment (read gas tools) solely because they offer a lot more power and possibilities than electric counterparts. The Echo SRM 225 weighs just 12 pounds, which is rather light considering it has a 14.9 oz. tank capacity. In other words, it is a lightweight nimble package. Of the top, three features that caught my immediate attention were its 59 inch long straight shaft, simplified starter cord and the automated rewinding reel feed.
Starting this beast takes a single pull and at first I thought Echo exaggerated the fact that their device needs 30 percent less force to turn over, but after couple of weeks I have to commend them on somehow managing to make the start so effortless. Just out of curiosity i wonder if it has some sort of a half-way automated starter hidden inside, I mean it really does start easy!
Moving on, I always prefer a straight shaft as it allows me to maintain the cut height better and hence match curb regions with more cleanliness to the rest of my lawn. And, this being 59 inches long is more than enough for any lawn. As for the auto rewind reel reload, it eliminates the need to open up the cord casing for a reload. Basically, in the few weeks I have had the pleasure of trimming with this electric weed whacker, I developed a compulsion to take it out every time I landscape – a primary reason why I must give Echo SRM 225 review the top honors.
