In-depth Review of the Snapper SP60V 60V Cordless Lawn Mower
Ease of Use
Having been in the lawn mowing business for ages now, I’ve come to terms with the fact that battery-powered models like the Snapper SP60V get a share of bad press that’s more than required. That’s clearly because customers end up buying them with the wrong expectations. The main advantage of using electric mowers and cordless ones in particular, is their ease of use. This electric mower for instance, comes largely pre-assembled, and you can just read the manual, charge it and get started in just an hour! Weighed less than 50 pounds, you can maneuver it easily; the electric push-start button and 3-position handle adjustment, make your mowing routine all the more simple. Once you’re done, you can conveniently use the vertical storage function to tuck it away in the tiniest corner of your garage!
Cut Quality
Initially when I started using the Snapper SP60V, the cut quality was exceptionally good. It just went off snipping through multiple layers of grass, trimming strips around flower beds and working on tough spots next to sidewalks with utmost ease. I’m not denying that sometimes, you need to go through a patch twice, but it was nevertheless great. Off late, I’ve noticed a slight decline in cutting speed, which is probably because I’ve used this machine almost every alternative day for various lawns of my clients. So the blades need to be sharpening owing to the ‘mowing overdose’. You can also mulch, side-discharge or use the grass catcher, whatever you prefer to do.
Height Adjustment
Ranging from 1-375 inches to 3.75 inches, there are 7 different height options for you to work the Snapper SP60V mower at (which is great in terms of number of options).The downside however, is that the lever meant for height adjustment sometimes doesn’t work while you’re mowing. So when the length, type of density of grass changes, or when you need to work on some weeds, you’d first have to power off the machine, adjust the height and then switch it on again. But this is a chance occurrence and doesn’t happen always. Otherwise, the height adjustment is pretty seamless.
Motor Power
The combination of 60V Lithium Ion Battery and Brushless Motor from Briggs and Stratton is probably the best, when it comes to powering cordless lawn mowers today. The Lithium Battery works like a charm and doesn’t lose out on power despite incessant charging and discharging. The run-time is not fixed, as it depends on a number of factors like the type, thickness and length of grass, and area covered. It takes me one hour to charge the battery to full which is pretty fast and only the Ego Power Plus LM2001 Cordless Lawn Mower and the Greenworks GLM801600 do the same job in less time! With the SP60V I can easily mow my lawn for around 45 minutes to an hour depending on the thickness of the grass.
Maintenance
My stint with this battery-powered lawn mower for the first 4 months was good. During the 5th month, I noticed a constant whirring noise emerging from the front wheel, which wasn’t running as smoothly as earlier. Though I tried some tricks to have it rectified on my own, it didn’t quite work out, and I had to call up Customer Support. They promptly sent a person over to replace it. Here, I need to tell you that the Snapper SP60V Cordless Lawn Mower is covered by a limited warranty of 4 years, and the Briggs and Stratton Motor has a long-standing warranty of 10 years. However, the battery kit (4 AH Battery plus charger) have a limited 2-year warranty coverage.
Cost Effectiveness
In terms of cost-effectiveness, the Snapper SP60V may not be your dream mower if you’re a strict budget-buyer. You might want to check out the GreenWorks 25302 Cordless instead. But the fact remains that if you’re very particular about purchasing a good quality battery-powered model, then you’ll have to spend more. Otherwise there’s no point investing in an inferior cordless mower that runs for 6 months and then breaks down. For all price-sensitive buyers, I always recommend electric lawn mowers with cord.
