Ease Of Use
Black & Decker, a brand name trustworthy for its durable designs, simple and yet effective products brings yet another masterpiece in the form of the Black & Decker Electric Mower LM175. This compact mower at first glance appears no larger than a heavy duty upright vacuum cleaner. In fact, after using it a couple of times, I actually felt like I was vacuuming my lawn rather than mowing it.
35 pounds makes this a rather easy mower to push and tug so landscaping around obstacles isn’t that hard and neither is pushing it over a large yard. You are only limited by the 100 feet cord and if need arises for greater coverage, best get an extension cord of a suitable gauge. My advice 10 or 8 gauge wire is fine for mowing. Being an electric mower you will have to snake your way from the electric outlet towards the farthest corner of your lawn so as to avoid accidentally running over the cord, which once you get used to is not much of an adjustment. Besides, it beats driving down to the local gas station to get fuel for a heavy gas mower that pollutes more than it cuts.
It isn’t just the mowing that is easy with this mower but also storage and maintenance. Because of its petite body and lightweight nature, you can quite easily carry it into your house, stack it in the garden shed or lift up into a trailer for when the time comes to change houses. A word of advice, if you hate electric products making too much noise, better not get this mower as it is actually the noisiest of all electric mowers I have ever had the pleasure of trying out. To some it may just be a low humming noise but to me it was at least twice as more than the last mower I tried.
Cut Quality
I won’t be mowing hard or wet tall grass with this Black & Decker electric mower LM175 anytime soon. 18 inch deck with just 6.5Amp power is not sufficient to handle really tall grass or those particular strains that many heavier grass variants have trouble chopping. However, if you fall under the category of lawn owners with typical grass who does not skimp out on bi-weekly mowing duties, this mower’s cut quality will suffice and even startle you at times.
Height Adjustment
The ability to raise or lower the deck using a single lever is indeed helpful but I don’t appreciate the 3.5 inch maximum height restriction. Nevertheless, you get some increment in cut height and can quickly lower or raise all four wheels at the same time, while you mow.
Motor Power
6.5 Amp is not a large power output from an electric mower but it seems sufficient enough to drive a 18 inch deck. I believe, the polymer deck and petite body was designed to help maximize the efficiency of this rather small electric mower. My only qualm is that for such a small motor, the mower tends to make a lot of noise.
Maintenance
Black & Decker is best known for its warranty and service coverage. This mower is not exempt either. With lifetime limited warranty on the polymer deck, take it to any service center authorized by Black & Decker to have the deck repaired or replaced if anything ever goes wrong. As for the rest of the mower, you get an ample 2 years of protection. Probably the only thing you will ever need to replace or repair regularly is the blade arrangement.
Cost Effectiveness
I think this is one of the cheapest electric mowers I have ever reviewed. At just under $160, it has sufficient power and performance to justify a purchase and with hardly any major drawback you really won’t be disappointed with this purchase.
